Overview:
As the name implies, a Young Event Horse class is very much like an equine talent hunt with the aim of identifying ‘horse acumen’ at the earliest age and stage. In addition, these events allow owners/breeders to show case their youngsters. Ultimately, the aim is to help to identify youngsters that possess the talent and mind set, with the proper training, to reach the upper levels of eventing.
Criteria:
Horse to be four or five years old as at August 1st, 2009
Rider to be 16 years or over
Horse to be 15.2hh or over and ridden in a snaffle bridle in all phases
Boots and martingales are optional for jumping.
Qualifications:
Horses to have achieved 58% or more in a dressage competition (to have been judged by a NZEF listed judge)
AND EITHER
completed a clear round over a 95cm show jump course at a NZEF or Pony Club show jumping competition
OR completed a clear round over a 95cm show hunter horse
OR completed a training horse trial or pony club ode
Qualifications must be verified in writing and submitted with entry.
Proof of horse’s age must be supplied.

The top six horses will be asked to return to the main arena for final judging. Also API Best Mare and Everton Lodge Best Presented Young Event Horse will be required for presentation in main arena.
- Great prizes—including the prize for the overall winner of the Young Event Horse Class has a value of over $2500.00 and includes a service fee to Ricardo Z and an EQUIBREED services voucher as a prize pool offering to the winner of the class. Ricardo Z stands at Ireland’s famous Kedrah House Stud and has left numerous proven eventing stock all over Europe.
