The CCI (Concourse Compete Internationale) classes are international rankings attributed to courses of a set degree of difficulty.  The highest class at the Puhinui Horse Trials is a Three-Star (CCI***) event. The CCI*** is an international standard, with only Badminton, Burghley, Adelaide, Kentucky, the Olympics and the World Equestrian Games (held every four years) ranking as Four-Star.

The Young Rider class is highly competitive and features the champions of today and tomorrow.   At this event young riders – who are all under 21 - will compete either in the CCI*** or CCI** class and will accumulate points dependent on their final placing.
