The Three Day Event Scoring System

Scoring is on a penalty system with the lowest score winning.

The Dressage test has a number of movements which are judged individually out of 10 marks. These marks are added, and converted into penalty points. The horse with the lowest dressage score is winning.

CCI *** - 3 Star Dressage
CCI ** 2 Star Dressage
CIC * 1 Star Dressage

On Endurance Day, penalty points can be incurred by falls, refusals or by exceeding the time set - every second over the time incurs penalty points.

In the Show Jumping phase, further penalty points can be incurred by knocking down a rail, falls, refusals or again by exceeding the time set.

Of the three parts of the competition, Dressage, Endurance and Show Jumping, the importance of each score is in a ratio of 3:12:1.
